Monroe County Farm Bureau
elects officers, votes on policies

The Monroe County Farm Bureau (MCFB) held their annual meeting Thursday, September 11 at the Whittier Road Party House. Election of officers and board members took place during the business portion of the meeting. Steve VanVoorhis was re-elected president and Jim Doan vice president. Marty Schutt was re-elected to serve on the board of directors, with Kim Zuber and Marc Krieger as newly elected board members.

Other business conducted during the meeting was adoption of state and national policy that Monroe County Farm Bureau will be sending to New York Farm Bureau's resolution committee for their support. If Monroe County Farm Bureau's policies are accepted, they will be voted on at the New York Farm Bureau (NYFB) annual meeting to be held in December. County Farm Bureau's from 52 counties and NYFB use their collective influence to impact legislative and regulatory issues based on the policies approved by NYFB delegates.

Several of the policies adopted by MCFB this year reflect their concern with the continuing problem of white-tailed deer and resident geese damage to agricultural resources. The following policies were adopted to address some of these problems:

MCFB recommends that DEC be responsible for all wildlife management and control in county and state parks.

MCFB requests that the Goose permit process be streamlined to increase the amount of geese that can be removed from problem areas and that the fee for the process be reduced or waived entirely due to the amount of financial damage caused by said geese.
