Two area fire departments win federal grants

Two area fire departments have been awarded grants under the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) 2002 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program: Kendall Volunteer Fire District, $23,895; and Hamlin Fire District, $26,028. Also receiving grant awards according to Congressman John J. LaFalce (D-29, NY) were North Tonawanda, $208,427 and Terry's Corners Fire Department (Gasport), $43,533.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program provides federal financial assistance to help improve basic fire delivery services across the United States. Funds can be used for fire operations and firefighter safety, fire prevention efforts, emergency medical services training and equipment, and firefighting vehicles.
