Beckingham nets two in Hawks win

Senior Bryan Beckingham scored a goal in each half as Holley defeated Kendall 3-1 in boy’s soccer September 17.

With just seven minutes left in the first half, Beckingham was in the right place at the right time in collecting a turnover in the box and sending it into the top right corner of the net to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. That capped a sloppy first half by both teams with one legitimate scoring chance for each team preceding the goal. The Eagles' Eddie Moore put a shot on net in the 33rd minute and Holley’s Pat Brice chipped a shot over the Kendall net three minutes later.

"We played terrible in the first half," said Holley coach Dan Orbaker after the game. "We were bunching in the middle and really didn’t show much effort. We challenged them at halftime and they played a great second half."

Just four minutes in, Beckingham scored his second goal heading in a great corner kick giving the Hawks a 2-0 lead. In the 68th minute, Scott Cavanaugh found the net for a 3-0 lead.

Kendall captain Donald Williams broke up the shutout bid with a goal from the end line putting it just inside the near post following a pass from Moore in the 76th minute making the final 3-1.

The Hawks improved to 5-1 this season, 2-1 in league action while the Eagles suffered their first defeat of the season and have a 4-0-1, 1-1-1 record.
