Gregory Schwind, an engineering science major from Hilton, received a presidential scholarship from SUNY Morrisville for the 2002-2003 academic year. Only students who have a grade point average of 90 or better and a mean SAT score of 1000 or better are qualified to apply for presidential scholarships.


Andrew Michael Campbell and Sheena Louise McMillan, both of Holley, were named to the dean's list for the spring 2002 semester at SUNY Geneseo.

Campbell's major is biology; McMillan's is history.

In order to qualify, students had to carry at least 12 credit hours, maintain a 3.4 grade-point average (GPA) out of 4.0 and have no "D," "E" or incomplete grades.


Area residents were among those named to the dean's list at SUNY Geneseo for the 2002 spring semester. Several names also appear on the President's List, which requires a 4.0 GPA.

Jennifer Brooke Demmans, of Spencerport, a sophomore seeking a bachelor of science degree in childhood/special education.

Cassandra Evelyn Hodge, of Brockport, a senior seeking a bachelor of arts degree in art studio.

Elizabeth Kathleen LaPierre, of Brockport, a senior seeking a bachelor of science education degree in childhood/special education.

Emily Margaret Lawlor, of Spencerport, a senior seeking a bachelor of arts degree in communication.

Michael John Mahoney, of Spencerport, a senior seeking a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy.

Brandy Michele Mohr, of Spencerport, a senior seeking a bachelor of arts degree in history.

Michael Dale Murphy, of Spencerport, a senior seeking a bachelor of arts degree in psychology.

Allison Emily Roether, of Churchville, a sophomore seeking a bachelor of science degree in pre-business administration.

Adam James Tianello, of Spencerport, a sophomore seeking a bachelor of arts degree in musical theatre.

Alexander Kevin Townsend, of Brockport, a junior seeking a bachelor of arts degree in psychology.


Breaca Marie Holden and Jessica Megan Irene Mench were named to the president's list at SUNY Geneseo for the spring 2002 semester.

Holden, of Brockport, is studying for a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy.

Mench, of Spencerport, is an art studio major.


David G. Becker, school bus driver trainer for Genesee Valley Board of Cooperative Educational Services, recently became certified as a master instructor. The New York State Education Department and the Pupil Transportation Safety Institute in Syracuse offered the one-year certification course to a few select school bus safety experts.

Becker joined Genesee Valley BOCES in 1996 and presently works with 26 school district transportation departments in both the Genesee Valley and Monroe 2-BOCES regions. In 1999, he earned certification from the National Association for Pupil Transportation. At that time he was the 89th instructor in the United States and the only one in the state to achieve this distinction.

An alumnus of St. John Fisher College, Becker resides in Churchville.


Robert A. Criddle, assessor for the Town of Ogden, has been admitted to membership in the Institute of Assessing Officers and has been awarded the designation of Professional Assessor. This announcement was made by Cathy L. Conklin, IAO, chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of the I.A.O., from Clarkstown, NY.

In order to attain this distinction, one must qualify by experience, successful completion of a comprehensive written examination and must subscribe to the Code of Ethics of the Institute.

The Institute of Assessing Officers is a society of professional assessors chartered by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York and is sponsored by the New York State Assessors' Association. At the present time there are 238 members.

Members of the Institute have the exclusive right to use the letters IAO after their name.


John P. Ayers has completed basic cadet training and earned the rank of cadet fourth class at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado.

He is the son of Steven and Patricia Ayers of Short Hills Drive, Hilton and a 2002 graduate of Hilton Central High School.
