Morris Beers, professor and chairperson of the Department of Education and Human Development at SUNY Brockport, received the University of Western Connecticut's Centennial Award of Excellence. The award was given to 80 outstanding alumni to celebrate distinguished alumni's outstanding achievements and contributions to society during the University's centennial year.

Beers has been very active in his community with such endeavors as church and Rotary. He is considered a master teacher and possesses a coveted SUNY Distinguished Teaching Award.

He and wife Carol, who teaches first grade in the Brockport CSD, have been members of the Brockport community for nearly three decades. They are the parents of four grown children: Kathline, David, Eric and Emily.
