at GCC's Career and Transfer Center

The Genesee Community College Career and Transfer Center is holding a free public Open House on Wednesday, November 6 from 4 to 6:30 p.m., and several free workshops throughout the month of November that will help individuals develop their resume writing and job interviewing skills. These workshops are ideal for anyone currently searching for their first job, a new position, or thinking about embarking on a job search or career change. The Open House and all workshops are free and open to the public.

The Genesee Career and Transfer Center Open House will be held on the Batavia Campus in Room C222. Visitors will learn how they can benefit from the many educational and career development resources at the Center, such as job search techniques and strategies, letter writing training, transfer programs at the college, and help in selecting a career direction. Reservations are not required.

Resume Writing and Cover Letter Workshops will cover the fundamentals of resume preparation, cover letters, and interviewing. Participants will learn what to include - and not to include - on their resumes, how to prepare a resume for scanning, and how to write attention-getting cover letters. Resume Writing and Cover Letters will be offered on the Batavia Campus on Tuesday, November 5, from 1 to 2 p.m., in Room C305; on Tuesday, November 12, from 5 to 6 p.m., in Room B358; on Thursday, November 14, from 1 to 2 p.m., in Room C305; and on Tuesday, November 19, from 1 to 2 p.m., in Room C305. Although the workshop is free, individuals are asked to call the Career and Transfer Center at 345-6888 to register.

Credential File & Interviewing Skills Workshops will cover common interview questions, interview etiquette, and the mechanics of the job selection process. Topics to be discussed include how to prepare for an interview, how to dress for an interview, questions to ask the employer, and the different types of employment interviews. The workshop will also present information on establishing a reference file and the types of references employers prefer. Participants will be able to ask questions about employment trends and successful job hunting practices. The workshop is free; however, individuals are asked to call the Career and Transfer Center at 345-6888 to register.
