Ryan's Big M holds 12th Annual Apple Fest

Ryan's Big M held their 12th annual Apple Festival on Saturday, October 26.

Customers were treated to cider and doughnuts as they shopped, along with samples of Apple Crisp and a variety of Apple Caramel dips. Happy the Clown was there to make the kids smile with his animal balloons.

The highlight of the day was the Apple Dessert Contest. What is usually a modest contest with about 30-40 entries turned out to be a huge undertaking with 104 entries. Desserts including apples pies, cakes, breads, homemade applesauce, apple dips, tarts, cheesecakes and ice cream desserts were entered, all hoping to win the $200 first prize.

A team of judges including Paul Kimball, Clarkson Supervisor; Dan Varrenti, Brockport Chief of Police; Marc Marcello, owner of Village Pantry; Carol Ritter, columnist; Josephine Matela, Brockport mayor; and Bob and Debbie Ryan, owners of Ryan's Big M, spent quite a bit of time judging and tasting the 104 desserts.

Lynn Rawleigh was the first place winner of $200; Lynn Spalty, second, $100; Pam DerVow, third, $50. As an added bonus, Bob and Debbie Ryan donated $2 for each dessert entered to Operation Christmas Child, an organization that sends shoe boxes to needy children for Christmas.
