Hall of Fame inductees named

The JPMorgan Chase Scholarship Basketball Tournament, which is the oldest running NCAA Division III tourney in the nation, has announced its sixth class of inductees into the JPMorgan Chase Scholarship Basketball Tournament Hall of Fame in conjunction with its 37th annual event, which will be held January 14-18, 2003.

The Hall of Fame's Class of 2003 consists of two NCAA Division III All-American centers: Kristin Roseti of SUNY Brockport and Ian Tudman of SUNY Geneseo. Roseti, a Williamsville native who lives in Rochester, and Tudman, a native of Spencerport who resides in LaPlace, Louisiana, will be inducted on Sunday, January 12 at the Tournament's Seedings and Pairings Dinner at 6:30 p.m. at the RIT Inn & Conference Center.

The participating area schools are Keuka College, Nazareth College, Roberts Wesleyan College, University of Rochester, RIT, St. John Fisher College, SUNY Brockport, and SUNY Geneseo. The women's (5:30 p.m.) and men's (8:00 p.m.) championship games will be held on Saturday, January 18 at Roberts Wesleyan College.

Roseti, a 6-0 low-post player who is the Hall of Fame's second female inductee (William Smith College's Jennifer Goodell Cooper was enshrined in 2002), was the three-game tournament's second-leading scorer in 1995-96, when Brockport began tourney play her sophomore year, with 48 points, 1996-97 (68 points), and 1997-98 (65 points). The 1994 graduate of Williamsville East High School received First Team All-Tournament honors in 1996-97 and 1997-98 (when her 48 rebounds led the tourney), with Second Team All-Tournament status in 1995-96.

In nine Tournament games, Roseti averaged 20.1 points and 10.3 rebounds per contest, hitting 55.8 percent (72-129) from the field and 74.0 percent (37-50) at the foul line as Brockport posted a 3-6 mark. Her single-game bests were 28 points in a 48-47 quarter-final upset of St. John Fisher in 1996-97 and 18 rebounds (along with 25 points) in the 1997-98 third place game, won by St. John Fisher 66-59.

She finished her Tournament career holding five records: most career points (181) and rebounds (93), and single tournament marks for best field goal percentage (20-31, 64.5 percent in 1995-96), most defensive rebounds (28 in 1997-98), and most rebounds (48 in 1997-98). Two of these, most defensive rebounds and rebounds in one tournament, still stand. She presently ranks third in tournament career scoring and rebounding.

Roseti, who is employed by the Gates Chili School District as a physical education teacher and coach, will receive her physical education degree from Brockport this December. She finished her four-year intercollegiate career under coach Michele Carron as Brockport's all-time scoring leader (1270 points) and third career rebounder (629), with Honorable Mention WBCA Division III All-American honors as a junior (1996-97) and senior (1997-98).

Tudman, a 6-8, 245 lb. pivotman who graduated from Spencerport High School in 1991, is one of just nine players to earn First Team All-Tournament status at least three times in 36 years of men's tournament competition. He received these honors following Geneseo's title game appearances his sophomore (1992-93, beat St. John Fisher 79-75, scored 21 points with eight rebounds), junior (1993-94, lost to Fisher 65-63, 13 points and 10 rebounds), and senior (1994-95, lost to RIT 66-65, 11 points and 11 rebounds) years.

In 12 tournament games, Tudman's Blue Knights posted an 8-4 mark, and he averaged 11.1 points and 6.8 rebounds per contest, hitting 48.2 percent (53-110) from the field and 60.0 percent (27-45) at the foul line. His single-game tournament-bests, 25 points and 12 rebounds, were both registered in Geneseo's 1994-95 semi-final 97-90 win over Hobart College.

Tudman, who graduated in 1995 as an Applied Physics major, finished his four-year career under head coach Steve Holmes as Geneseo's third career scorer (1410 points) and fourth all-time rebounder (774). His Blue Knights compiled a composite 79-27 (74.5 percent) won-loss mark, with NCAA Division III Tournament appearances in 1992-93 (23-4, reached NCAA Sweet 16), 1993-94 (22-5, Round of 32), and as a senior in 1994-95 (20-8, Sweet 16) when he was voted Second Team NCAA Division III All-American honors. Tudman and his wife, Jelena, live in LaPlace, Louisiana, where he works as an Industrial Hygienist for DuPont.
