Riga Recreation and Community Events Department offers the following during the holiday season.

•American Red Cross Babysitting Class - Course covers the following topics: responsibilities of a babysitter, basic child growth and development, the selection of appropriate toys and games, the supervision of children, home safety and accident prevention, basic first aid measures, the personal safety of the babysitter, the feeding of children and the handling and diapering of infants. For anyone ages 11 to 14. Saturday, November 23, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Maher Lodge at South Sanford Road Recreational Facility. $28 per person.

•Holiday Art with Nancy Sue - Create a craft for the holiday All supplies and materials included. Saturday, December 21. For grades 1-4, from 10 a.m. to noon. For grades 5-7, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Riga Recreation Office, Upstairs Meeting Room. $12 per person.

•Gal's Day Out! - Paint a lighted ceramic Christmas tree. Bring dish to pass for lunch; beverage and utensils provided. All materials included. For adults 18 years and older from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 16, at Maher Lodge at Sanford Road Park. $14 per ceramic piece. Instructor is Carol Passaniti.

•Letters to Santa - Send a letter to Santa, care of the Riga Recreation and Community Events Department and staff will make sure Santa sends a personalized letter back. Send letters to North Pole c/o/ Riga Recreation and Community Events Department, 8 South Main Street, Churchville, NY 14428.

•Holiday Decorating Contest - for Riga/Churchville residents only. Decorate your house for the holidays and receive prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places within the categories of 1). Use of lights, 2). Creativity, 3). Theme, 4). Judges' Choice. Judging will be held on evenings of December 3, 4, 5 starting at 6 p.m. The community is invited to a holiday party where the winners will be announced, and including music and refreshments, Friday, December 13 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Raymond Adams Cobblestone Hall. •TGIF for kids! - for Churchville Elementary School students only, grades 1-4. Presentation by Generation Cool. The Churchville-Chili Transportation Department will transport children from school to the Maher Lodge at South Sanford Road Recreation Facility, where parents/guardians will pick up their child. Friday, November 22 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. $8 per person.

On Saturday, October 26, the Town of Riga Recreation and Community Events Department held their 2nd Annual Halloween Pumpkin Hunt and Dance for youth grades 5-7 at Maher Lodge at South Sanford Road Recreational Facility. The children enjoyed a free evening of food, dancing, prizes and a huge costume contest. Videos Plus donated some videos that were given out as prizes.

Van Drivers wanted. Mondays and Thursdays from approximately 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to drive the senior citizen van for the Nutrition site. Training available.
