The Churchville Village Board voted unanimously to pass a new local law establishing requirements for attendance at meetings, training sessions and workshops for members of the village zoning and planning boards, following a public hearing at its regular meeting November 4. more

Churchville residents raise tax impact issue
At the November 6 Churchville Planning Board meeting, village residents raised the question of tax impact should the Star of the West Milling Company leave the village. Seeking approval to build storage silos which exceed village code limits, members of village boards and company owners have discussed various impacts on the community the business' proposal might cause. Public discussion of tax rate changes was raised at the most recent meeting. more

Officials in the Town of Murray approved their 2003 budget at a recent board meeting. more

National President to visit American Legion Auxiliary
Members of the American Legion Auxiliary of Monroe County will welcome National President Elsie Bailey of New Jersey on her official visit to the area, Wednesday, November 20. more

Shoemaker, museum partnership is a custom fit
Interpreters at the Genesee Country Village & Museum and players in the museum's vintage 19th century baseball program will have period-appropriate footwear thanks to P.W. Minor & Son of Batavia. The company also will fund a re-interpretation of the museum's boot and shoe maker business. more

Six girls crowned Honor Stars
Six girls were crowned as Honor Stars on October 13 at a formal service at New Covenant Worship Center. Stars Club is the name of a Christian girls club of Missionettes, and is for girls in third through fifth grades. more

One night each year, for the last 30 years, the members of the Spencerport Lions Club have gotten dressed up and put on their dancing shoes to dance the night away. They really know how to have a good time - at least that's what their dance partners from the New York State School for the Blind think. more

Veterans share war experiences
Land of the Free and Home of the Brave are two themes that rang true on Friday, November 8 at Hill Elementary School in Brockport. Veterans Peter Barber, William Reardon, David Yeaw, Richard Griswold, Ronald Ayrault, Lewis Randall, Benjamin Pasgenski and Daniel Sell visited classrooms throughout the day sharing their war experiences with fourth and fifth grade students. more

LMH's Tree of Lights honors people and events
Lakeside Memorial Hospital Twig Association will sponsor the 13th Tree of Lights during the holiday season. A permanent tree has been planted and will be decorated on the front lawn of the hospital. more

The Lions Club of Chili sponsored the Lions International Peace Poster contest for 2002-2003, with the theme Dream of Peace, at the Gates Chili Middle School and St. Pius X R.C. Elementary School. more

Toy/blanket drive donations welcome
Through December 10, the MOMS (Mothers Offering Mothers Support) Club of Spencerport-Churchville is collecting new or gently used toys and blankets for donation to the Bethany House of Rochester, a shelter for homeless women and children which help to give them a new start in life. more

Hilton High School graphic arts students of teachers Tait Loe and Ron Hindmarch were presented with National Gutenberg Awards November 7 at the Rochester Institute of Technology by members of the Printers and Imaging Association of New York. more

Hilton Model United Nations'
delegates debate world issues

Students from over 30 area school districts sent members of the Model UN Clubs to Hilton's 23rd Annual Model United Nations November 8 and 9 to share information and ideas in a forum "that is the idealized goal of the UN's founders," said Penfield High School student Mariam Banahi, who served as Secretary General. more

Holley appoints new secondary school principal
The Holley Central School District has appointed Michael J. Gilbert as secondary school principal 7-12. He was the unanimous choice of the board of education and administrative team after interviews with four outstanding candidates. Gilbert will replace William Pileggi, who retired after 28 years. more

Nominations for new college scholarship program open
Senator George D. Maziarz (R-C, North Tonawanda) says nominations are being accepted for a new college scholarship program approved by the State Legislature earlier this year. The program will award scholarship winners with full tuition for four years at the State University of New York Maritime College in New York City. more

The 2002 Hilton Raiders C Team won the AYFCL championship game versus the Irondequoit Vikings on November 3 and are the C-Team champions. more

Athletic fields open at
Churchville-Chili Central School District

As the final stages of a $30.9 million capital improvement project reach completion, a ribbon-cutting ceremony commemorated the opening of the new athletic fields at Churchville-Chili Central School District. This ceremony was held on Friday, October 18 at the new athletic fields as part of the Homecoming festivities. more

Brockport High School Cheerleaders held their end of the Fall 2002 Season Banquet and Award Ceremony on November 2. more

Palumbo MVP as Saints win title
The Churchville-Chili Saints boy’s volleyball team didn’t make it easy on themselves - but then sectional titles aren’t supposed to come easy. Eric Palumbo knocked down 21 kills and Chris Shekell dished out 28 assists as the Saints defeated Spencerport (November 6) 30-28, 25-18, 19-25 and 25-13 to win the Class A Championship. more
