Chamber invites Orleans' elected representatives to preview the year ahead in Albany

The Orleans County Chamber of Commerce and NYSEG will co-host a preview of the 2003 New York state legislative session. The chamber's Legislative Luncheon is scheduled for Friday, December 13 at Tillman's Village Inn.

"In the past, the chamber has hosted this event in late February or early March," said Executive Director David Kelly. "By that time, many issues had already been decided. Senator Maziarz and Assemblyman Nesbitt did a nice job of bringing everyone up to speed, but they were reporting on things that had already happened. With our new emphasis on public policy, the chamber wants to help create a political agenda, not just react to it."

After lunch, the chamber will begin the discussion by presenting some of its priorities to the legislators. "These issues have a very real impact on businesses in Orleans County," said Public Policy Chair Norma Huth. "If this year's election really was about jobs, then our issues will generate some serious discussion and action."

Business Council lobbyist Kerry Kirwan will follow the Chamber's presentation with a discussion of a few of the small business issues her statewide organization is pursuing. That will lead to the presentations by Sen. George Maziarz and Assembly Minority Leader Charlie Nesbitt. A question and answer period will follow.

Both chamber members and non-members are welcome to attend this event, but pre-registration is required. The cost is $9 for members and $12 for non-members. Registration forms are available at the chamber offices in Albion and Medina. Call 589-7727 with questions.
