Hilton Model United Nations' delegates debate world issues

Students from over 30 area school districts sent members of the Model UN Clubs to Hilton's 23rd Annual Model United Nations November 8 and 9 to share information and ideas in a forum "that is the idealized goal of the UN's founders," said Penfield High School student Mariam Banahi, who served as Secretary General. Over 600 students not only formulated and addressed the problems of terrorism, natural resources and world health, but also promoted "Adopt-A-Minefield" which hopes to raise more than $20,000 to help remove landmines from a field in Afghanistan. Keynote speaker was UN Ambassador to the Marshall Islands Alfred Capelle who is an expert in Asian-Pacific languages.
