Erin Speer of Collamer Road, Hilton, was named a dean's scholar at Syracuse University. She received an award valued at $4,000 per year.


Jo Ann Palermo has been appointed Human Resources Administrator for Monroe Litho, Inc.

Prior to assuming her new position, Palermo was associated with the company's Accounting Department. In her new role, she will interface with employees regarding a wide array of human resource issues.

Palermo is a graduate of Monroe Community College with an associate's degree-business administration and an associate's degree, health information management. She also attended new Horizons Vocation School.


The following Syracuse University students are spending the fall, 2002 semester studying in London, England, through Syracuse University's Division of International Programs Abroad.

•Jessica Martin, Redman Road, Brockport, a junior majoring in television-radio-film at Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.

•Courtney Weins, Dunbar Road, Hilton, a junior majoring in public relations at Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.

•Shawn Anderson, Deerborne Lane, Spencerport, a sophomore majoring in newspaper journalism at Syracuse University's S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.


The following area residents enrolled at Syracuse University were recognized by Chancellor Kenneth A. Shaw for completing General University Honors in the past academic year. Students completing General University Honors were recognized at a reception held at the Chancellor's Residence October 18.

In addition to achieving the grade point average required for dean's list honors in their respective school or college, students who complete General University Honors have enrolled in at least four courses in Syracuse University's Honors Program and have successfully completed the freshman and sophomore Honors Program seminars. The Honors Program enhances opportunities for excellence in creative and scholarly learning and supports the academic, professional and personal growth of outstanding undergraduate students.

•Maureen Carroll, Maplewood Avenue, Spencerport, a sophomore majoring in art photography in the College of Visual and Performing Arts.

•Jessica Schubel, Gary Drive, Brockport, a senior majoring in international relations in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Rebecca Mesh, Haskins Lane North, Hilton, is a senior majoring in chemistry in the College of Arts and Sciences.


Kendall senior Melissa Joseph scored in the top five percent of all students taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) last October and received a Letter of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). Over one million students took the PSAT/NMSQT last October. The test is co-sponsored by the College Board and NMSC. By taking the test, students may qualify for the NMSC scholarship competitions.


Joyce Lobene of Nothnagle Realtors has retired as manager of the Spencerport Office in order to devote her full time to sales. After many years in the management capacity and as a top west side producer, Lobene will continue to sell real estate specializing in existing and new home sales in the Greater Spencerport area.

"Retirement as manager has been in my plans for several months, my clients and customers have always come first and this will give me more time to devote to them."

Lobene will continue to work at the Spencerport Nothnagle office as an associate broker and maintains a home office also.
