Church forms "Team Harris" to help family cope with transplant
Barbara Harris of Moul Road, Parma is no stranger to kidney-related problems, she says. "Mine began when I was six years old. Then at age eleven I endured two-and-one-half years of dialysis. Problems continued that led to a transplant of one kidney in 1972. Now the other kidney must be replaced and I expect the operation sometime in mid-January." more

Eastern Orleans United Way raises $138,000 for community
The annual Eastern Orleans United Way/Red Cross Campaign raised $138,224 representing 89 percent of their $155,000 goal. However, a few employee campaigns are still underway and campaign organizers remain hopeful that the final figure will significantly increase. more

Groundbreaking held for Clarkson affordable apartments
Clarkson Town Supervisor Paul Kimball and other dignitaries broke ground November 26 for the construction of Seldon Square Apartments, Phase II, located at 99 Sunset Center Lane in the Town of Clarkson. more

Hilton's Long Range Planning Committee to see results of its work
The 40-member Long Range Planning Committee formed in 2000 by the Hilton Board of Education will re-convene on Tuesday, December 3, at 7 p.m. in the Board Meeting Room of the Quest/West Avenue Building to review the final architectural plans and drawings of the Hilton School District's $57.9 million Capital Project set to being in March. more

Hilton/Parma community members come together to fight mischief
Eighty concerned Hilton and Parma residents met at the Village Community Center November 21 to share their concerns with juvenile mischief and develop a strategy to deal with such behaviors. The meeting was the result of action taken by a few local residents following an incident at Darrin’s Automotive in which 10 cars were severely damaged and property was stolen, in late October. more

Salvation Army pleas for more bell ringing teams
"Bell ringer volunteer teams are still needed to fill numerous slots at kettle sites," announced Rick Damore, field representative for The Salvation Army's Service Units in Monroe County. "With the lagging economy comes additional hardship for families in this county. Bill ringing teams from companies, clubs and families, which would raise funds to help such families, would be a true God-send during this holiday season." more

Service of Remembrance for anyone who has
experienced the death of a child or young person

The First Presbyterian Church of Holley is holding a Service of Remembrance and Compassion, designed especially to meet the needs of family members and friends who have experienced the death of a child or young person. The service will be at 7 p.m. on Sunday, December 8 in the sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church in Holley. more

Thanksgiving and Christmas came early to the participants in the Sweden Clarkson Community Center in the form of a nearly $3 million donation and the deed to the Community Center presented to town officials. more

In an effort to be almost all things to all people, the owners of Wal-Mart are proposing a 203,500 square foot, 24 hour a day, seven day a week super store in the Town of Sweden. more

Sweden Seniors host Symphony concert
The Brockport Symphony Orchestra performs Handel's Messiah with the Cathedral Choir School on December 14, at 7 p.m. at the Sweden Senior Center on State Street in Brockport. General admission for the concert is $8 and includes a reception following the performance. Children under 12 are free. more

The annual Hilton Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony will be held on Saturday, December 7 at 7 p.m. in the Gazebo of the Hilton Community Center, 59 Henry Street. more

Hamlin ceremony includes lighting The Tree of Names
The Friends of the Hamlin Public Library will sponsor the third annual tree lighting ceremony in the Town of Hamlin on December 7, on the library grounds. Activities will begin at 3:30 p.m. with a story hour in the library. Local talent will participate in a pre-tree lighting program which will begin at 4:30 p.m., culminating in the tree lighting at 5 p.m. A visit from Santa and refreshments will follow. more

On Saturday, November 16, Christmas DecorTM employees were up on the rooftop hanging outdoor lights and wreaths at the Rochester Ronald McDonald House, 333 Westmoreland Drive. more

"Fully dressed turkey" shows they helped others
Students at Churchville Elementary School donated over 970 items to be given to the local Churchville Lions Club for their annual food drive. For each item donated, a feather was added to what started out as a bare turkey displayed in the cafeteria. more

Holley Elementary students collect pennies for CURE
Holley Elementary students display some of the 83,000 pennies they collected for CURE Childhood Cancer Association. CURE provides educational, emotional and financial support to families facing childhood cancer. more

Informing parents of the signs, symptoms and patterns of substance abuse in their child is the topic of an upcoming meeting being sponsored by the Holley Central School District. more

Hilton Hockey Booster Club hosts scholarship fundraiser
The Hilton High School Hockey Booster Club will be sponsoring a fundraising event to benefit the 4th Annual Rob Coppaway Memorial Scholarship Fund. It will be held on Friday, December 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lakeshore Hockey Arena. Donations are requested of $2/person or $5/family and skate rental will be available. Raffles and a 50/50 drawing will also be held. more
