Sweden Seniors host Symphony concert
Sweden Seniors host Symphony concert

The Brockport Symphony Orchestra performs Handel's Messiah with the Cathedral Choir School on December 14, at 7 p.m. at the Sweden Senior Center on State Street in Brockport. General admission for the concert is $8 and includes a reception following the performance. Children under 12 are free.

This year's concert will mark the first time that the orchestra will be joined by the Cathedral Choir School. The Choir School, an independent, ecumenical vocal ensemble of trebles and adults, is modeled after British cathedral and collegiate choirs. Founded in 1986 by Jura Litchfield with LIFT grant administered by Arts for Greater Rochester, the school is dedicated to singing choral works written for worship. The Choir School is a member of the Royal School of Church Music in America, an international organization dedicated to high standards in liturgical music.

To help the Symphony fund its 2002-2003 season, the Sweden Senior Center offered its facilities to transform this year's concert into a fund raising event. Admission will include a reception following the concert with refreshments and homemade gourmet desserts provided by the Senior Center. The community is encouraged to take this rare opportunity to meet the Symphony's conductor and musicians.

The Symphony is always seeking new musicians and volunteers. Anyone interested in a position with the orchestra or in volunteering for the association is encouraged to call (585) 234-4296 or e-mail Ryan Brown at rbrown1123@yahoo.com or John Centrone at jacentrone@hotmail.com. Donations are accepted c/o Brockport Symphony, P.O. Box 344, Brockport, NY 14420.
