Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society at Monroe Community College has inducted 92 of the highest achieving students at the college. The students were honored for their academic success and involvement in college and community activities.

Phi Theta Kappa is the honor society for the nation's two-year colleges.

To be considered for membership, students must have earned at least 18 credits toward their degree, with at least 15 of those credits earned at MCC, and have a grade- point average of 3.75 or higher.

Following are the most recent local inductees:
•Angela S. Peragine of Brockport.
•Christina A. Cozan, Stottle Road; and Melissa S. Warney, Greenway Boulevard, Churchville.
•Valerie D'Ambra, Brasser Drive; and Daniela Stefanovski, Emerald Point, Chili.
•William G. Beiter, Greenridge Crescent; Christine Rissow, Locust Drive, Hamlin.
•Christopher A. Gillette, Lake Avenue, Hilton.
•Steven S. Kimball, Countyline Road, Holley.
•Timothy C. Smallidge, Whittier Road, Ogden.
•Heather L. Garrett, Brockport Road; Emily R. Mahns, Manitou Road, Spencerport.


Thirty-two Genesee Community College students were inducted into Alpha Iota Upsilon, Genesee's chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for junior and community college students, on the first of this month. Students are admitted into the honor society on the basis of outstanding academic achievement and service to the college and community. The induction ceremony was conducted by this year's president, Bryan Collier.

Area residents inducted into the chapter in November were: Joshua Brusso - Kent; Cory Capurso - Bergen; Brian DeFazio - Bergen; Sheri McIlvene - Kendall.


Timothy G. Chapman, US Army, a 1997 graduate of Churchville-Chili High School and 2001 graduate of Houghton College, was promoted to 1Lt effective December 2, 2002.

He is the son of Marilyn VanNiel of Churchville, and Gordon Chapman of Chili.
