Golden Eagles win first ever playoff game

The Golden Eagles defense shutout the high-powered Springfield College offense as Brockport won its first NCAA playoff game 16-0 at muddy Special Olympics Stadium November 23.

The Golden Eagles offense had the ball inside the 20-yard line three times in the first half, but were only able to come away with three points on a Mike Laney field goal. They made it 10-0 on their first drive of the second half as Adam Webster scampered in from four yards out. That scoring drive featured a 31-yard pass play from quarterback Anthony Mayes to Darin Brady.

After Springfield was forced to punt on the ensuing drive, Jeremy Lynch ran up the left side for a 67-yard return and the 16-0 lead.

Brockport’s defense continued to rise to the occasion in allowing Springfield to cross midfield only two times in the game. The team has now shutout their opponent in 23 of the last 28 quarters and registered a team record fifth shutout on the season. The team also tied the season record for wins with nine.

With his 125 yards rushing, Webster set the school single season rushing record with 1,268 yards. With his 15 yards receiving, Webster accounted for 48% of Brockport’s total offense on the day.

The Golden Eagles advanced to the second round November 30 and played at Rowan University to try to avenge last season’s playoff loss to the Professors.
