OPD to offer Citizens Police Academy
The Town of Ogden Police Department offers their Citizens Police Academy on Wednesday evenings at the Ogden Community Center, 269 Ogden Center Road, Spencerport, beginning January 22, 2003. The class will meet for 10 weeks. more

Secretary Albright helps Lakeside celebrate
The first Friday in December starts out like every other day of the week at Lakeside - that is until someone famous walks in the main entrance. Then it becomes a day you will always remember for Lakeside residents, children, employees and volunteers. This year was no different, when Secretary Madeleine Albright arrived. more

Skate park coming soon to Sweden
As part of a school project, students in Brockport High School have been researching and designing a skate park for the Town of Sweden. more

Three Spencerport firefighters honored for 50 years of service
Dick McQuilkin, Millard "Red" Fairley and Lyle Zarpentine are celebrating their 50th anniversary with the Spencerport Volunteer Fireman's Association. They were recently honored at the firemen's annual banquet for their service. more

Westsiders help bring Yuletide celebrations to life

County plans firewood sale in January
The Monroe County Parks Department will sell approximately 50 face cords of firewood on Saturday, January 18, from 9 a.m. to noon. The sale will be held in front of the Monroe County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility at 444 East Henrietta Road, across from Monroe Community Hospital. more

Girl Scout Troop 501/537 is holding a Hat and Mitten Drive to benefit the Brockport-Sweden Toy Shelf. more

Holiday Toy Drive organizers invite donations
The Hamlin Bread and Thread is conducting a holiday toy drive for the "Angel Gift Project" to benefit children in need in the Hamlin area. Last year, over 185 children were the recipients of gifts from this project. more

P-H HS Christmas Gathering
The Parma-Hilton Historical Society will be celebrating Christmas at their December meeting on Monday, December 16 at 6 p.m. at the History Building, 1300 Hilton Parma Corners Road, Hilton, featuring a Pot Luck Dinner. more

The New York State Park Police will be holding a snowmobile safety certification course for youth in January 2003. The course is targeted for young persons ages 10 to 18. more

Custodial Appreciation Day
inspires "Extra Cleaning" in Classrooms

Students at Hilton's Village Elementary School inspired by a Student Council initiative to show appreciation for the work done by the school's custodial staff, held a party, created 'thank you' cards, and spent time doing extra cleaning in their classrooms this month according to teacher Linda Horton, who advises the Student Council. more

Employees Honored at Brockport Central Schools
Fifteen members of the Brockport Central School District (BCS) non teaching professional staff were recognized for the dedication and positive contributions they bring on a daily basis to the district. more

GCC trustees approve new certificate program
Genesee Community College's Board of Trustees has authorized the creation of a new certificate program in the Study of Developmental Disabilities. The board's action must now be ratified by the State University of New York and the New York State Education Department. If approvals are received as expected, the new certificate program will officially begin in September 2003. more

Albion drops Hawks
The Albion Purple Eagles scored eight points in the final minute of the game to pull out a 33-27 win over Holley December 9 in girls basketball. more

Brockport's football season memorable
Brockport High School's football season is said to be one of the varsity's most memorable seasons in its history. With victories against formidable opponents such as Greece Athena, Irondequoit, Rush Henrietta, Churchville-Chili, Spencerport, Greece Olympia and Hilton showed the hours of training, dedication, commitment and triple sessions paid off. more

Golden Eagles lose in quarter-finals
"They made the plays you have to make late in a game to win," said Brockport head football coach Rocco Salomone after John Carroll University’s 16-10 win in overtime December 7 at Fauver Stadium. The loss ended the Golden Eagles storybook season, which saw the team advance farther than ever before in the NCAA playoffs. more

McInally leads Bees
Mike McInally won the 112-pound weight class and four teammates finished second as Byron-Bergen won the 16-team Byron-Bergen Wrestling Tournament December 7. The large field featured teams as far away as Buffalo and the Southern Tier in fifteen weight classes and took almost eleven hours to complete. more

The Paolini power play
Spencerport native and Cornell senior forward Sam Paolini scored one power play goal and assists on another against Boston University and the Ithaca Breast Cancer Alliance is the benefactor. In fact, all three of his goals this season are on the power play. more
