On Saturday, November 17, 2002, Alice Dutcher, 85, died after a brief illness. She leaves behind many friends in the community and at Lakeside Memorial Hospital where she volunteered for more than sixteen years. Before becoming a hospital board member in 1986, she enjoyed several leadership roles in various Girl Scout organizations and spoke with great pride of becoming a Girl Scout in 1928. Beginning in 1942, she was appointed the district director of the Buffalo & Erie County Council and served in this capacity for 13 years when she became the district director and director of program services for the Broome County Council. In 1971, she moved to Brockport and served as the director of finance and the director of development for the Genesee Valley Council in Rochester, where she served until she retired in 1982. She continued to work as a volunteer and served on the Council Adult Recognition Committee and the Capital Campaign Committee of the Girl Scout Program Center in Batavia. Her volunteer experience was recognized with several awards including the Thanks Badge II which is the highest award given in Girl Scouting. In 1986, she brought her human services, administrative, fund raising and board development experience to Lakeside when she was elected to the Lakeside Memorial Hospital Board of Directors. She worked closely with CEO Robert W. Harris to build the Lakeside Health System. During her tenure, she was part of the process that helped Lakeside grow into a health system that includes not only the hospital, but the Lakeside Beikirch Care Center, the Lakeside Child Care, the Daisy Marquis Jones Family Wellness Center and the Lakeside Foundation. She also served for many years as the board chair of the Health System Board of Governors, was a trustee of the First Presbyterian Church in Brockport, the historian of the American Camping Association and a member of the Quota Club of Batavia, the Morgan Manning House, and life member of the Cobblestone Society. In 2000, her years of volunteer service were recognized by the Buffalo Bills when she was named as a Community Quarterback. For "Dutch" - as she was known to her friends and colleagues - no job was too big or too small. She could be found every Saturday volunteering at the front desk giving directions to Health System visitors. She also gave the largest gift to the current Capital Campaign. She was always there when the Twig Organization needed to be thanked, or to honor staff who received awards, and was known for her funny stories she shared in those important moments. She never stopped giving and, when she knew she was terminally ill, asked that people remember her by giving a memorial gift to one of her three loves - Lakeside, Girl Scouts of Genesee Valley or the First Presbyterian Church in Brockport. Peter Maxson, current Chair of the Lakeside Health System Board of Directors, who is greatly saddened at the loss of Dutch, said, "Dutch was a remarkable woman. Lakeside has grown and thrived because of volunteer leaders like her. She will be truly missed and will always be remembered with gratitude for all she gave to her community and to Lakeside." AREA •Dewey, Steven C. "Dew", age 46. December 6, 2002 in Bath, New York. Predeceased by his father, Leon and devoted step-father, Joseph Ashley. Steven leaves his son, Matthew Steven Dewey of Irondequoit; mother, Helen Ashley of Nashua, New Hampshire; sisters and brothers-in-law, Carole "Hap" Tooley of Nashua, New Hampshire, Bonnie (Jim) Volkmar of Spencerport, Leona (Sam) Bonacci of Mt. Gretna, Pennsylvania; brother and sister-in-law, Clifford (Carrie) Ashley of Brockport; several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews and many good friends. Remembrance Gathering was held December 14 at the Brockport Elks Lodge. •Moyer, Irene M., December 6, 2002 at age 83. She is survived by her husband of 60 years C. James Moyer; her daughter, Barbara (Jack) Stadtmiller of Dearborn, Michigan; her sons Paul (Susan) and Bruce (Patricia) both of Rochester; nine grandchildren, Michael, Michelle, Jeffrey, Jason, Douglas, Kevin, David, Mark and Kristen; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were held December 9 at Greece United Methodist Church. Interment at the convenience of the family. Contributions can be made to the Episcopal Church Home, 505 Mt. Hope Avenue, Rochester, NY 14620 in her memory. BROCKPORT •Stettner, Marie E., December 5, 2002. She is survived by her husband, Robert; children, Ken, David (Grace), Marleen (Jack) Yelaca; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild. A Memorial Service was held December 11 at the First Baptist Church of Brockport. Friends wishing can make contributions to Brockport Ambulance in her memory. CLARENDON •McGuire, Aleen (Brown), Age 79, December 6, 2002. Survived by sons, Mark (Nancy) McGuire, James and John McGuire; brothers, Donald (Edie) Brown, Harley (Ella) Brown, William (Jeanne) Brown; daughter-in-law, Nancy McGuire; 15 grandchildren; many great and great-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were held December 9 at the Merrill-Grinnell Funeral Home, Holley. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in the spring. Memorials can be made to the Grace Baptist Church in Brockport. GREECE •Laundry, M. Evelyn (Draffin), Suddenly on December 2, 2002 in Seattle, Washington, age 86. Predeceased by husband of 59 years, Clifford. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jessie and Clayton O'Dell; son and daughter-in-law, Neil and Donna; brother-in-law, Franklin (Miriam) Laundry; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Member of Monroe Chapter #57 O.E.S. and Daughters of the Nile. A Memorial Service was held December 14 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 2009 Dewey Avenue, where she was a member for 65 years. Contributions can be made to Wesley United Methodist Church in her memory. HAMLIN •Koss, Minnie (Badge), December 6, 2002 at age 98. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter Koss. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was a retiree of Duffy-Mott and a member of St. John Lutheran Church. A Memorial Service was held December 10 at the Thomas E. Burger Funeral Home, Inc., Hilton. Private interment Lakeside Cemetery. •VanHouten, Paul, November 21, 2002 at age 38. His Memorial Service was held December 7 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Hamlin. HILTON •Sweetheimer, Howard J., December 9, 2002, 86. Predeceased by his wife, Cecelia. Survived by children, Kattie Battaglia, Barbara (Gery) Cromheecke; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and close friends. Funeral Services were held December 12 at the Thomas E.
