Hill School raises money for Brockport Toy Shelf

For eight years, the fourth and fifth grade students at the Fred W. Hill School have raised money during the holiday season through their Nickels for the Needy event. The students collect money that they place in baskets located around the school. This year, the students raised $232.

On December 16, nine Hill School students used this money to buy books at the Lift Bridge Book Shop on Main Street in Brockport. The book shop also contributed money to the effort. The students chose all of the books that were purchased. The books were donated to the Brockport Toy Shelf and on the weekend of December 21 and 22, the Toy Shelf gave the books to local families in need so they can have a happy holiday.

Since the Hill School began Nickels for the Needy eight years ago, the students have raised more than $1,800. Each month, the Hill School focuses on a different value. Nickels for the Needy is part of December's focus on caring.
