The Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES Center for Workforce Development has become an Authorized Prometric Test Center (APTC) Prometric is a leading worldwide provider of comprehensive technology-based testing and assessment services. As an APTC, the Center for Workforce Development (CWD) operates under a license from Prometric.

"It's computer-based testing instead of using paper and pencils for exams," said Kayleen Burgio, Prometric administrator. There are four CWD clerical personnel who are certified to administer tests following strict guidelines. The Prometric system scores tests automatically and information exchange between each APTC and Prometric is done via the Internet. CWD is one of two testing site in Rochester.

At this time, the types of tests that are being offered by CWD are technology based, such as A+ Core Hardware, Designing and Implementing Desktop Applications, and Managing a Microsoft Windows 2k Network.

To register and pay for a test, individuals can log on to the Prometric Web site at www.prometric.com. However, all tests must be taken at an APTC. Anyone who has registered and paid for an examination may be tested at CWD. CWD purchases vouchers for the A+ and Net+ tests it administers, which are offered to its adult technology students to assist them in becoming certified.

Based in Baltimore, Maryland, Prometric, last year alone, delivered over six million exams through a network of over 3,500 computer-based testing service centers in 121 countries and 25 different languages.
