Members of the strategic plan core team presented the draft framework of the district's strategic plan, the result of three intensive days of work in November. The group of 27 Spencerport residents and employees developed a mission statement with strategic objectives and strategies to achieve the mission, all by consensus.

The members of the core planning team will meet two more times to review the measurement and action teams' plans. The core team members are: Jim Alexander, Nicole Barrett-Vespone, Michael Blackwell, Sherry Bridges, Beverly Brust, Gerald Bucklin, Susan Burek, Mary Charles, Richard DuBois, Larry Fenity, Mark Fish, John Goehle, Shannon Heller, Tracey Horton, Mary Kinsky, Phil Langton, Gay Lenhard, Ariel McCollough, Jim Oberlin, Ruth Roberts, Carol Robinson, Glynne Schultz, Bonnie Seaburn, Fred Seiler, Dr. Lorraine Sherwood, Dr. Bernadette Skobjak and Dr. Robert Sudlow.

The draft mission statement is: Our mission is to educate and inspire each student to love learning, pursue excellence and use knowledge, skills and attitudes to contribute respectfully and confidently to an ever-changing global community.

The draft strategic objectives are to have each student: participate continuously, respectfully and willingly in improving community well being; demonstrate their love of learning through the passionate pursuit of his/her personal interests; possess the knowledge, skills and attitudes to meet or exceed expectations as outlined in Spencerport's and New York State's standards.

To achieve the objectives, the draft plan states that the district will: continuously assess and align human, financial and physical resources necessary to achieve our strategic objectives enroute to our mission; inspire students, staff and all other members of our community to embrace, commit to, and achieve each of our strategic objectives enroute to our mission; engage and energize active partnerships necessary to achieve each of our strategic objectives enroute to our mission.

A measurement team has begun developing a draft of measurement tools to make sure the district makes progress toward its strategic goals. In addition, action teams are now being formed to plan the implementation of the strategic objectives. Any residents who would like to be on an action team can contact: Michael Crumb, Assistant Supt. for Human Resources, Strategic Planning Coordinator, Spencerport Central Schools, 71 Lyell Avenue, Spencerport, NY 14559.

Once the draft plan is refined, it will go to the school board for approval in June. The plan will guide the district's direction in the coming years.
