Holley welcomes new business to Industrial Park

Precision Packaging Products has recently completed its move to Holley’s Industrial Park, Mayor Dan Schiavone said. "They just moved in and should be starting up soon," he said.

The move may make more than 70 jobs available when the plant is fully operational, Schiavone said. Precision Packaging, formerly of Greece, uses plastic from recycled pop bottles to manufacture packaging for both food and non-food retail products.

Early in 2002, the company and the Orleans County Industrial Development Agency began working out incentive packages for the move. At that time, the company needed to obtain a $300,000 state loan, IDA Executive Director Donald Kennedy said, in order to help finalize the deal. At that time, Holley village officials authorized the IDA to seek a $450,000 Small Cities Economic Development Grant for the project. The IDA will seek $300,000 for Precision and $150,000 to create a new electric utility substation in the industrial park.

Precision’s lease at its former location expired and they were looking to close that Greece plant and complete their relocation to Orleans County in the early part of 2003. Kennedy said Precision would offer a visible presence to the Industrial Park. The factory will be located at 31 Maziarz Drive, within the park.

One of the big draws for a new business, Schiavone said, is the village’s low cost electric. "Once they are fully operational, they will be a big electric customer for the village and their presence will also help keep our rates low," he said.

An Empire Zone designation was recently awarded to Holley and Schiavone said that would also help attract new businesses. An Empire Zone location offers financial and tax incentives for new or expanding businesses and this can mean significant savings for corporations and investors through a variety of resources and opportunities for businesses exploring startup or expansion projects.
