Fairport pulls away from Blue Devils

Fairport outscored Brockport 14-4 in the deciding third quarter and went on to defeat the Blue Devils 48-32 in boy’s basketball January 6.

The Red Raiders jumped out to a 14-0 lead before Tyler Mutton got Brockport on the board after they were held scoreless for the first five minutes of the game. The Blue Devils fought back to trail by just six points on a James Erbland steal and lay-up in the second quarter. Phil St. Amant and Erbland hit shots in the final thirty seconds of the first half, but Brockport was eight points back going into the locker room.

The Blue Devils managed just one field goal and two foul shots in the third quarter to fall behind 38-20 after three. Midway through the final quarter, Thomas Hildreth and Mutton made three consecutive three-pointers to cut the lead to 11 points, but Brockport missed the front end of two 1-and-1’s down the stretch and never got any closer.

"We held them to just 48 points so we played a good defensive game," said Brockport head coach Charles Hage. "We just didn’t shoot the ball well tonight."

Brockport forced 20 Red Raider turnovers in the game. Hildreth and Anthony Rogers led the Blue Devils in scoring with eight points each with Mutton chipping in with five. Fairport had nine different scorers and was 13-15 from the free throw line compared to Brockport’s 3-8. Brockport falls to 5-5 overall.
