SUNY Brockport opens Cabinets of Curiosity

"Cabinets of Curiosity: Brockport Collects" exhibit opens January 28 with a reception from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Tower Fine Arts Gallery, SUNY College at Brockport.

From the sublime to the eccentric, to spark cultural discourse or just for fun, this exhibit of the personal collections of faculty and staff members features items including: license plates, Muppets, Soviet propaganda posters, Roman coins, Inuit masks, Mexican milagros, toy cameras, walking sticks, antique bottles, national parks stamps, theatrical performance posters, dolls, postcards from the edge, and owls.

According to Gallery Director Tim Massey, "Everyone collects something; some people just don't think of themselves as collectors. Maybe the collections have no monetary value; but they have intrinsic worth. The diversity of our faculty and staff's collections makes for a fascinating exhibit."

The exhibit runs through February 23. Gallery hours are Monday-Thursday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m.
