Brockport skate park

Students in Brockport High School's engineering design and development class held a bottle drive on Sunday, January 5 that raised $248 for the skate park they are helping to build. The students collected bottles from throughout the area and redeemed them at Wegmans Food Market. The money will be used to help hire consultants to assist in the design of the skate park.

The skate park will be a 20,300 square foot, outdoor recreational facility for inline skaters, skateboarders and BMX freestyle bikers. The park will cost an estimated $150,000 and is expected to be completed by June 16. It will be located in the new 150 acre town park located on Redman Road. SUNY Brockport sold the land to the town for one dollar. BISCO (Brockport Integrated Service Community Organizations) donated $40,000 to the town for the purchase of the equipment for the park.

The engineering design and development class consists of sixteen students, fifteen seniors and one junior, and is taught by Brett Handley. The course is part of a national high school pre-engineering program called Project Lead the Way. The program includes hands-on engineering experience where students work with professionals to design and develop a project.
