includes workshops and performances

The Fine Arts Committee at Genesee Community College is collaborating with School Library Services of Genesee Valley BOCES to present a Storytelling Festival Kick-Off for children in grades 3 through 8 in the GLOW region. Rochester based storyteller Howard Edmond will give a series of workshops to area school children on Friday, February 13 in the Stuart Steiner Theatre. A community performance will follow at 12:30 p.m.

Tickets for the performance are $6 for adults, $3 for students and senior citizens and $2 for Genesee Community College students with a current ID. A few openings remain for the workshops but space is limited. Any interested schools should contact the Box Office at the Genesee Center for the Arts for reservations and information. Reservations are not needed for the performance, however.

Edmond is a SUNY Brockport graduate and has appeared on several Rochester radio and TV stations. He will present two workshops on Myths and Legends. The Forum Players, the student based acting group at GCC, will also offer workshops on storytelling techniques. Participants will then attend a performance by the presenter before returning to their schools.

The performance is open to the public. Call the GCC Box Office, 585-345-6814, for information. Groups of 10 or more receive discount tickets.
