Hilton's Dan Lucas on boxing card

"It'll be my first boxing match ever," said Dan Lucas about his upcoming heavyweight match as part of the seven-fight card at the Blue Cross Arena March 6. The feature match of the evening pits Rochester residents Robert "Push-up" Frazier against Charles "The Natural" Murray.

"I've been discussing trying boxing for years and then last year I tore my ACL," said the holder of a world championship in kickboxing in the heavyweight division. "I might go back, but with the knee still healing and being the right situation here in Rochester, it's a good time to try this for a while. If it pans out, I might stick with boxing."

Other bouts on the card include Rochester's Mike Engler and James King in a middleweight tilt, Jermal Barnes, a teacher at Wilson High School, in a cruiser weight fight and fellow Rochesterian Joell Scott along with two or three fighters from Buffalo. Some fights are scheduled for four or six rounds, others for ten.

Lucas says he "punches like Mike Tyson since I'm smaller, but Marvin Hagler is my all-time favorite. I want to see boxing come back to Rochester - it should be in Rochester with the boxing Hall of Fame in Canestota."

Tickets are available at the Blue Cross Arena box office or by contacting Lucas at the Mountain Storm Kickboxing School, 55 Lois Street off of Lyell Avenue, Rochester or at 254-6430. The event begins at 7:30 p.m.
