The Kyokushin Karate Fitness USA hosted its first karate seminar of 2003 in January. The karate school, located in Rochester, is the main headquarters of the United States International Federation of Karate. The head instructor, Shihan Mike Monaco, taught an advanced kata clinic, and local school owner Scott Haug of S & S Fitness Gym & Martial Arts Center in Hamlin taught a weapons clinic.

The seminar was attended by karate masters and champions from all over the United States as well as local school owners. Todd Hutchinson of Hilton Karate, and Larry Quaranto of the new Holley Kyokushin school were both excited about the event. "It gives us all a chance to train together," Hutchinson said. "Learning new techniques with new people was truly exciting," Quaranto stated.

The next IFX/USA seminar may host a special international guest, which will be held in the spring of 2003.
