Spring concert will offer old and new selections

The Spencerport Community Chorus will present its annual Spring Concert on Saturday, March 1 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, March 2 at 3 p.m. Both concerts will be held at the First Congregational Church (the Historic White Church) on Church Street in Spencerport. The concerts are free, with baskets available for donations. Receptions will follow the concerts.

This year's program will begin with Greg Gilpin's rousing Festival Gloria, followed by a medley of Broadway showtunes. Anna Sapienza will solo the jazz ballad, The Night We Called It a Day. The women will sing the 1940 Jave Jive, arranged by Kirby Shaw and recorded by Manhattan Transfer, and the men will perform Muddy Water from Big River, and the American folk tune Shenandoah.

Jay Althouse's Madrigal Madness will provide a fun change of pace and will show off the chorus' a cappella singing. The chorus will also sing May It Be from The Lord of The Rings: The Fellowship of The Ring, and John Rutter's Distant Land, written in 1990, soon after the demolition of the Berlin Wall and the release of Nelson Mandela from prison. The program will end with an arrangement of The Gift of Song and Thank You For The Music.

The chorus is directed by Margaret Page Colucci and accompanied by Margaret Johnson. Rehearsals are held at the White Church, Sundays, from 3 to 5:15 p.m. Anyone is welcome to sing.
