North Chili United Methodist Church
celebrates 150th anniversary

The United Methodist Church of North Chili, 2200 Westside Drive (at the corner of Buffalo Road), Rochester, is celebrating their 150th anniversary. It was founded in 1853 on a Buffalo Road site across from the cemetery. It moved to its present location in 1964.

Pastor Rev. Lynn Reece and the Sesquicentennial Committee have planned festivities that will continue throughout the Sesquicentennial year of 2003. A different event is scheduled for each month of the year, culminating with an Old Fashioned Christmas in December.

A history calendar of the church since its beginnings in 1853 is being researched by the church historians: Kenneth Beaman, Lyla Weinreber and John Ruckdeschel. This history of the past is of great interest to the present congregation. A new article is presented in each monthly newsletter, so that the entire history of the church will be completed by December.

In February, new baby clothing is being collected for donation to the Grace Urban Ministries. This project is headed by Ellen Farnham and Nancy Sue Foltz of the United Methodist Women's Group, whose goal is to collect 150 new baby items.

In March, a historical drama will be presented, directed by Kerry Lewis. Also on March 29, the Men's Breakfast Group will host a breakfast at the church, co-chaired by Tom Gardner and Walt Stanzel.

Many activities will follow as the year progresses. Any former members interested in participating in the events are welcome. Call the church office at 594-9111 for information.
