Country Neighbors Quilt Guild supports Lakeside Health System

The Country Neighbors Quilt Guild, located in Holley, has donated over 40 rag dolls to Lakeside Health System. The dolls are outfitted in matching patient gowns and caps and will be distributed to pediatric patients in the Emergency Department and Same Day Surgery. Several of the dolls are dressed in outfits celebrating the different seasons and holidays.

Carolyn Vacanti, president of Patient Services, and Amy Fletcher, RN, nurse manager critical care, accepted the donation from Lorraine Haight, a member of a guild. "Just being in the hospital, nevertheless undergoing any medical procedure, can be a very stressful experience for children. These dolls are certain to comfort our young patients and ease some of their anxiety. We truly appreciate the thoughtfulness of this donation," Fletcher said.

Approximately 20 members of the guild participated in sewing the outfits, hand painting faces and assembling the dolls. The Country Neighbors Quilt Guild was established in 1994 by Linda Glantz, who is owner of the Apple Country Quilt Shop and Café, in Holley and the guild's sponsor. The Guild started with eight members and has grown to a membership of 60. They describe themselves as a group of like-minded people who, in addition to their hobby, like to donate to a couple of charity events each year. They have monthly evening meetings. New members welcome.
