Katherine Anderson, a 1999 graduate of Churchville-Chili, will be performing her senior recital on March 29. She is a percussion major at Grove City College and will graduate in May with a bachelor of art degree in music and a minor in religion. Her junior and senior years she has served as musical director for the Koinonia ministry team. She is the daughter of Dennis and Lorraine Anderson of Chili.


The following students have been named to the dean's list for the 2002 fall semester at Messiah College.

Aaron M. Faro, a senior sport and exercise science major, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael E. Faro, North Chili. Faro is a 1999 graduate of Churchville-Chili Senior High School.

Naomi V. Dudek a freshman Christian ministries major, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Robert Dudek, North Chili. Dudek is a 2002 graduate of Churchville-Chili Senior High School.

Dean's list is earned by receiving a 3.6 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale.


Caitlin McCloskey of Spencerport was named to the dean's list for the 2002 fall semester at Susquehanna University. A senior public relations major, she is the daughter of Charles and Cynthia McCloskey.

To qualify for the dean's list, students must achieve a minimum 3.4 grade point average out of a possible 4.0 for the semester, while completing a minimum of 12 semester hours.


Bentley College has named the following students to the dean's list and president's list for the fall 2002 semester.

Timothy Kane, of Rochester, was named to the president's list. He is a junior majoring in management. To be named to the president's list, a full-time student must have a grade point average of 3.7 or higher with no course grade below 3.0 during the term.

Courtney Bowers, of Rochester, was named to the dean's list. She is a sophomore in liberal arts. To be named to the dean's list, a full-time student must have a grade point average of 3.3 or higher with no course grade below 2.0 during the term.


Kathryn Merrill, daughter of Pam and Myke Merrill, Lake Avenue, Hilton, has been named to the fall 2002 dean's list at Keuka College. Merrill, a junior, is studying occupational therapy.

A Keuka College student must have earned at least a 3.5 grade-point average for each block of at least 12 semester credit hours to be eligible for the dean's list.


Jillian Smith was selected to the dean's list for the School of Dentistry at West Virginia University for the fall semester. Smith is a 2002 graduate of Brockport High School and is attending WVU for dental hygiene. She is the daughter of Char and Todd Smith of Clarkson.

Selection to the dean's list requires a GPA of 3.5 or higher.


Erica Smith was selected to the dean's list for the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. Smith obtained a 4.0 GPA for the fall semester and is in her fifth year of the doctor of pharmacy program. She is a 1998 graduate of Brockport High School and the daughter of Char and Todd Smith of Clarkson.


Jaime Dengal, a senior at Kendall High School, was selected for the second year as a student ambassador by the People to People Program. Last year Dengal traveled to England, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany. This past summer she went to Australia and New Zealand for three weeks with 40 students and four adults leaders. Dengal is the daughter of Judith Dengal and resides in Holley.


Suzanne M. Ley graduated from the University of Buffalo in May earning a bachelor ofarts degree, magna cum laude/Phi Beta Kappa in Political Science with a minor in Russian Language. She had been honored with membership in the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society, the Golden Key National Honor Society, Who's Who Among American University Students and the National Dean's List. She was also a member in Pi Sigma Epsilon, a national business fraternity, the University level of the Model United Nations and was Academic Clubs Coordinator for the Student Association, in which she also served as vice president.

Ley is now living in Uzbekistan, a former Soviet Republic in Central Asia, where she will be teaching Business and English at the university level, as a member of the Peace Corp. Ley is the daughter of Harold and Peggy Ley of Ogden and is a 1995 graduate of Churchville-Chili High School.


Bonnie Sandera has been named Recreation and Community Service Director for the Town of Riga. She has most recently been employed as Youth Program Director for the Town of Ogden. Prior to moving to Rochester, Sandera was employed by the YMCA of Greater Houston, where she managed several recreation and community programs. Sandera's main focus will be to increase the quality and enrollment of the Summer Camp and Senior Citizens program. She resides in Ogden with husband, Mike and sons, Kevin and Gregory.


Deran L. Bissonette, of Spencerport, received a bachelors of arts degree in political science from Michigan State University in May.


A Monroe County resident has been awarded scholarships to attend Alfred State College. Michael Palermo of Rochester was awarded approximately a $2,000, "All-American Scholarship," as well as a $500 "Alumni Scholarship." Palermo is slated to graduate in 2003 from Spencerport High School and intends to enroll in the banking/financial services program.

The "All-American Scholarship" (free board) is awarded to students who possess an 88 or better high school average through their junior year and who have achieved at least a 1100 combined SAT score or a composite ACT score of 24. Recipients must maintain a required GPA to continue to receive free board in subsequent semesters.

The "Alumni Scholarship" is awarded to children and grandchildren of Alfred State alumni with an 80+ high school average. Awards are disbursed over four semesters provided scholarship requirements are fulfilled. The Alumni Scholarship is made possible through the generosity of the Alfred State Alumni Association.
