Student helps fire department

WE-MO-CO Career and Technical Education Center student Kristina Sheerens is helping the Chili Fire Department Company 2. Kristina is a volunteer firefighter and is also machining parts for the department's new fire truck. The second-year machine shop student from Churchville-Chili was approached by her captain, Ken Wojtylak, to make a part out of aluminum for holding power saws on the truck. Wojtylak, a former WE-MO-CO graduate, said he looked to WE-MO-CO first for help because he knows the students do quality work.

Using the current plastic part as a guide, Kristina figured out all the dimensions and made a blue print of the front, side and top views. Once her teacher, Pat Scarpulla, approved the drawings, she began making the four aluminum parts, which will be used to hold power saws on a slide-out tray. "This project gave Kristina an opportunity to apply her precision machining skills to help the community," said Scarpulla.
