Dianne Hickerson's watercolor painting entitled "Fiesta" has been accepted by the American Watercolor Society (AWS) for its 136th Annual International Exhibition in New York City. The exhibition at the Salmagundi Club, 47 Fifth Avenue, runs April 8 through May 4, daily except Mondays. The painting was chosen by a six-member Jury of Selection from thousands submitted from around the world.

The Jury of Awards selected "Fiesta" and others in the exhibit for inclusion in the AWS 136th Annual Traveling Exhibit. The traveling exhibit will go on a circuit of museums and galleries around the United States for a year after the New York exhibit ends.

This was Hickerson's first submission to the highly competitive annual exhibition. "Fiesta" is a variation of a previous watercolor she did in her usual realistic treatment of flowers, crystal, and bright sunlight in vibrant colors. "This time I tried to think outside the box," Hickerson said. "With 'Fiesta' I experimented with different colors and more abstract style."

Hickerson, a Brockport resident, is a member of the Rochester Art Club, the Pittsford Art Group, a signature member of the North East Watercolor Association, and a signature member of the Niagara Frontier Watercolor Society.
