Love-A-Book ends with prizes

The Byron-Bergen Elementary School’s Third Grade Annual Love-A-Book Reading Incentive ended on Friday, February 28 with a final prize drawing. Kali Galen, a third grader in Mrs. Darocha’s class, earned the Love-A-Book Grand Prize, which included a movie, stuffed animal and other toys.

Each year during the month of February, third graders at Byron-Bergen Elementary School are encouraged to read at least 25 pages or 15 minutes each day. Each time the students complete 25 pages or 15 minutes of reading, they fill out a reading slip, which is signed by an adult. At the end of each week, the slips are collected and students are entered into weekly drawings for incentive prizes. The Love-A-Book Reading Incentive culminates with a congratulatory pep session and the final grand prize drawing led by Mrs. Boyle, the K-12 Reading Coordinator.

Due to the success of the program and the students’ increased love of reading, some classes have continued their independent reading with the chance to win an afternoon of kite-flying in April.
