T’ai Chi offered through Hilton-Parma Rec

Hilton-Parma Recreation is offering a continuation of their T’ai Chi program this spring, beginning on Monday, March 24 and ending May 12 (eight lessons). A beginner class will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and an intermediate class for those “continuing the form” will meet from 7:30 to 9 p.m. All classes will be held at the Village Community Center, 59 Henry Street in Hilton. Cost is $59.

T’ai Chi is one of the ancient Chinese martial arts and is the most widely practiced around the world today. Subtle and sophisticated, it consists of a series of dance-like moves, that, when performed slowly, bring out an increase in vital energy, “Chi.” It increases flexibility and balance and decreases stress levels.

To learn T’ai Chi in all aspects, one must practice the “forms” slowly for health, fast for the martial aspect, both directions for balance, always analyzing the correct posture and techniques. The relaxed movements are an excellent way of reducing stress and improving overall health. Daily practice helps to deepen respiration, slow the heartbeat, and gently massage the internal organs. It improves the body’s flexibility and strengthens the legs. It is low impact, and can be done by all ages.

Registrations are being accepted now at Hilton-Parma Recreation, 59 Henry Street, Hilton. The class is open to all ages. Any questions, call 392-9030.
