Trustee seats filled in Holley

A retired math teacher and the village's former mayor were chosen by Village of Holley voters to fill two trustee seats. John Kenney, in his first bid at public office, received 247 votes, the most garnered by any of the candidates. Louis Passarell, former mayor and a retired police chief in the village, received 182 votes.

Passarell beat out another former mayor, Skip Carpenter, by one vote to win the seat. Buffie Gleason, in her first bid for election to public office, received 99 votes. The two seats were available after incumbents Peter Dreher and Gail Sevor opted not to seek election.

Kenney said he was thankful for the support and encouragement provided by the community. "I'm ready to get to work on the communication gap," he said. "I want the community to have information on projects and actions that concern them." As part of his election platform, Kenney also urged the village to update its zoning ordinances and make copies available to residents.

Passarell, who had previously served for five years as the mayor, was unavailable for comment. While he was running for election, Passarell said his main goal was to try to keep the taxes down. "Because of the trying times ahead of us, experience is a necessity," he said.
