Oak Orchard Yacht Club Incoming Commodore Joyce Henry, from Kendall, Past Commodore Kenneth Witt from Batavia, and Vice Commodore Paul Gray from Kendall, are new officers installed at a recent ball.


Officers in Oak Orchard Yacht Club begin terms of office

Oak Orchard Yacht Club installed new officers at the annual Commodore's Ball held at the Clubhouse near Point Breeze on Lake Ontario. The ceremony was attended by over 40 members and guests from the Orleans and Genesee county area.

Among the new officers installed were Commodore Joyce Henry and Vice Commodore Paul Gray. Henry has served on the OOYC Board of Directors as Vice Commodore and Rear Commodore in recent years. She is also Secretary Treasurer of the regional Power Squadron, Treasurer of the Morton Township Fire Company, and serves as a boat Safety Inspector for the Power Squadron.

Gray served last year as Rear Commodore for OOYC, is a member of the Kendall Lions Club and serves on both the Orleans County and Town of Kendall Planning Boards.

Gray served as Master of Ceremonies of the event which also served to honor Past Commodore Kenneth Witt.

Witt has served six years on the OOYC board in a variety of posts and will continue to serve three years as a director of the club. He is a past president of the Batavia Rotary Club and former Batavia City Council member.

Henry said that the purpose of the Oak Orchard Yacht Club is to promote safe boating activities and provide dock and social facilities for its 60 members. Membership is open to all those interested in sailing and power boating. Youth Sailing Instruction is also provided for children in the area. The club recently established a web site (www.ooyc.org) for those seeking information about boating activities.
