Hilton Senior Cheerleaders win first place at CANAM Championships in Myrtle Beach

Hilton Senior Varsity Cheerleaders captured first place with 517 points competing against 19 squads from across the country in the "Medium Size" category at the CANAM International Cheer and Dance Championships in Myrtle Beach March 22-23. "We cried, laughed ... it was so exciting. The kids were thrilled," said coach and Hilton High school teacher Laurie Miller.

The full 25-member winter squad also earned a fourth-place runner-up position in the "Super Large Varsity" category. Members of the senior squad are: Jessie Bell, Tara Curran, Nicole Dalton, Jamie Delgatti, Katie Donlon, Melanie Friesen, Tammy Gardner (who also won a 5th place in the "Senior International" individual category), Nichole Klotzbach, Alicia Maier, Serena Melvin, Emily O'Coin, Randi Roethel and Stephanie Rosenburgh.

The event was held at the Myrtle Beach, South Carolina Convention Center and drew more than 4,300 participants and over 15,000 spectators.

Hilton Varsity Cheerleaders earned an invitation last summer, one of only 500 squads who received bids. CANAM is considered one of the premiere championships in the cheerleading world featuring teams from 36 states, Canada, England and Scotland.
