This fun-filled event emphasizes family and community involvement from the building of the race car, to the double elimination soapbox car race. Registration forms and sponsor forms may be obtained by calling 637-6371 extension 100 or by stopping at the Clarendon Town Hall, 16385 Church Street, Clarendon. The registration form and fee, and the sponsor form and fee must be returned by April 12 to the Clarendon Town Hall. The Derby Go-Kit Car Kits will be available for pick up by the first of April. Business owners might also wish to become a sponsor of the Soapbox Car Race, which creates visibility for the business, as well as helps promote the event. Levels of support range from car sponsor, product sponsor, to race sponsors and cash donations.

Last year's race was very successful. Medallions were given to each of the participants and each registered driver received promotional products donated by various sponsors. Trophies were given for the first four places and savings bonds in the amounts of $300, $150, and $50, plus $25 cash were given to the top three places in each division. The adult racers received Clarendon Cheesecakes and disposable Kodak cameras and trophies for the first three places. The awards for this year will depend on sponsors' generosity and community support.
