Shirts are forum for women

The national Clothesline Project will be at SUNY College at Brockport, Tuesday, April 8 to Thursday, April 10. The project was initiated to create awareness of violence against women. It is a visual display of multi-colored shirts, each representing a particular woman's experience. The shirts are decorated by a victim of violence or someone who cares about her.

The project displays shirts from around the country. Area women can take part by decorating their own shirts at home, bringing a shirt to represent a victim of abuse or violence, or making their own shirts during the Clothesline Project.

The project provides a safe forum for women to speak out against abuse, helps the healing process of women who are survivors of abuse, and helps educate the public on the extent, prevalence and impact of violence against women. The Clothesline Project is sponsored by SUNY Brockport's Women's Center. For information contact Felisa Turner at (585) 395-5584.
