Spiritual Labyrinth walk renews and refreshes

Looking for hope and peace? A spiritual labyrinth will be open at the Spencerport United Methodist Church at 32 Amity Street on Good Friday evening, April 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday afternoon, April 19, from 1 to 3 p.m. With stops along the way to help individuals focus on aspects of their spiritual life, this meditative prayer walk provides a way to leave the cares of the world behind and draw closer to God. Participants walk the labyrinth carrying a CD player and listening on headphones to music as a soothing voice describes each stop. Experiences incorporate all of the senses: touch, hear, see, smell, and taste.

Pastor Keith Griswold describes the labyrinth with words from the leader's guide, "It blends the ancient practice of labyrinth walking with contemporary popular culture - music, televisions, computers, and things from everyday life. This suggests that the holy can be represented in the language of the here and now, of which popular culture is a significant part. God meets us in the stuff of everyday life, in the real world."

Visitors can go through the labyrinth at any time during the hours that it is open. It usually takes about one hour to travel the path, and it is designed for adults and teens.
