Champion trophy

The Spencerport Jazz Choir participated in the Roxbury Choral Invitational in New Jersey on March 29. Concert, Show and Jazz choirs from across New England performed for adjudication rating as well as competing for top recognition in each category.

The two most highly rated ensembles in each category were invited to perform in The Evening Showcase where a Grand Champion award was given. The Spencerport group performed in the showcase and was awarded the Grand Champion trophy in the Jazz Choir category.

Soloists in the Show and Classical categories also performed throughout the day. They, too, performed for adjudication and an opportunity to sing in The Evening Showcase. Meredith Muller and Jason Weitz performed jazz solos and Chris Keenan and Amanda Plucknette performed classical solos. Amanda Plucknette went on to be awarded the Grand Champion trophy for her performance of "Porgi amor" from Mozart's "Le Nozze di Figaro."

Matt Sheffet was presented with a Special Recognition trophy for his solo work in The Swing Choir's performance of "Africa."

The Jazz Choir is New York's only high school a cappella vocal jazz ensemble. They specialize in performing the arrangements of The New York Voices, Vox One, The Real Group, Manhattan Transfer, The Ritz and many more. They have won Superior ratings at Music Festivals across the United States and Canada. This spring The Jazz Choir will be competing in New Orleans during the Heritage Music Festival.
