William Weiner, Albano Drive, Hilton, has been named to the dean's list for the winter term ending in March at Johnson and Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island. Weiner is majoring in computerized drafting.

To receive dean's list commendation, students must earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.40 or above.


Paul J. Guarino, a freshman in the school of music and son of Ken and Laura Guarino of Brockport has been named to the 2002 fall term dean's list at Duquesne University.

The dean's list recognizes full-time students who have maintained at least a 3.25 on a 4.0 scale, with no grade lower than a C.


Elizabeth A. Dombrowski is the winner of the Douglas C. Zefting Memorial Award sponsored by the Monroe Professional Engineers Society. The scholarship is presented as part of the Rochester Engineering Society scholarship program.

Dombrowski, daughter of Lorraine and Joseph Dombrowski of Osage Trail, Spencerport, is a senior at Churchville-Chili High School.


Jory Paul Crowell of Spencerport has earned the distinction of dean's list for semester I with a 3.77 GPA. He is a senior at Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts. His major is physics with a math minor.

Last semester, Crowell served as a co-captain of the Gordon Golf Club. He has been on the dean's list each semester of his four-year academic career.

Since January, he has attended school at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California on an exchange program through the organization known as the Christian Consortium. The main purpose is for a student to have an opportunity to study on a different campus and in a different geographical area of the U.S.


Nancy Robak was inducted into the Alpha Theta Iota Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Monroe Community College on March 23.

Robak, majoring in criminal justice, is married to Ted Robak of North Chili.


Lissa Palermo, the daughter of Richard and Laurie Palermo, Westside Drive, Rochester, spent a week in Rockhill, South Carolina working with the Rockhill Home For Girls. She helped with maintenance projects while interacting with the residents of the home during the Hamilton College spring break.

Palermo, a junior majoring in neuroscience, is a graduate of Churchville-Chili Senior High School.


Paul Diedrich, Burritt Road, Hilton, has been named to the dean's list for the second quarter at Rochester Institute of Technology. A fifth-year student in RIT's Kate Gleason College of Engineering, he is studying industrial engineering and maintained a 4.0 average. Diedrich is the son of David and Kathy Diedrich, Hilton, and a 1998 graduate of Hilton High School.


Rebecca Houghton, a senior at Elmira College, was named a Cowles Honor Scholar and to the dean's list for the fall semester.

On March 14, Houghton was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society and has been named president of her school chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, the National Education Honor Society.

On April 4, she was awarded the Shabonowitz Senior Mathematics Award. Houghton is the daughter of Lory and Randall Houghton and a 1999 graduate of Hilton High School.


Judith Oleson has been selected to participate in the Semester at Sea international study program operated by the University of Pittsburgh. Oleson has been at sea on the SS Universe Explorer since January 2003. The ship has visited countries in South America, Africa and Asia. Oleson is scheduled to return to the US in May 2003 and to complete her degree at Penn State University in 2004.

Judith Oleson is a 2000 graduate of Brockport High School. She is the daughter of Fred and Diane Oleson of the town of Sweden.


William T. Michielsen, West Avenue, Spencerport, has been named to the dean's list for the fall and winter quarters at Rochester Institute of Technology. A second-year student in RIT's B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences, Michielsen is studying computer science. He earned a GPA of 4.0 for the winter quarter.

Michielsen, son of Thomas and Linda Michielsen, of Spencerport, is a 2001 graduate of Spencerport High School.


A Monroe County resident has been awarded approximately $2,000 for the "All-American Scholarship" to attend Alfred State College. Jamie Bucci of Hilton is slated to graduate in 2003 from Hilton Central School and intends to enroll in the architectural engineering technology program.

The "All-American Scholarship" (free board) is awarded to students who possess an 88 or better high school average through their junior year and who have achieved at least a 1100 combined SAT score or a composite ACT score of 24. Recipients must maintain a required GPA (grade point average) to continue to receive free board in subsequent semesters.


The following area residents were among the student volunteers serving in the Syracuse University Literacy Corps. The Syracuse University Literacy Corps is a service learning experience that mobilizes Syracuse students to mentor and tutor students at elementary and secondary schools in the Syracuse City School District, Lafayette Central School District and community-based organizations for an average of 10 hours per week.

  • David Robinson, Chappell Street, Brockport. Robinson is a freshman majoring in political science in the College of Arts and Sciences.
  • Courtney Weins, Dunbar Road, Hilton. Weins is a junior majoring in public relations in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.

Jessica Schubel, Gary Drive, Brockport is spending the spring 2003 semester studying in Madrid, Spain, through Syracuse University's Division of International Programs Abroad.

Schubel is a junior majoring in international relations at Syracuse University's College of Arts and Sciences.


Andrew Meyers, a Hope College sophomore, Churchville, toured with the Hope College Chapel Choir during spring break in March. The tour performed in Indiana, West Virginia, Washington, D.C., New Jersey and New York and includes sacred and secular pieces of various styles and languages.

Meyers is the son of Gregg and Reneé Meyers, Churchville, and a 2001 graduate of Churchville-Chili Senior High School.


Emily Olney, Ogden Parma Town Line Road, Spencerport, has been named to the dean's list for the winter quarter at Rochester Institute of Technology. A fifth-year student in RIT's Kate Gleason College of Engineering, she is study-ing industrial engineering for both her bachelor's and master's degrees. Olney is the daughter of Thomas and Nancy Olney, of Ogden Parma Town Line Road, Spencerport and is a 1998 graduate of Spencerport High School.


Bob Everts of the Chili-Ogden office of Nothnagle Realtors has been named the Lister-Of-The-Month for March. Everts listed six new properties for sale during March, three of which were sold before the month ended. He is a full-time agent primarily handling real estate sales in the western suburbs and a graduate of the Realtors Institute and the Master Sales Academy.


Brian P. Grover of Prudential KARES has been named to The Prudential Real Estate Affiliates, Inc. Leading Edge Society, Residential, for 2002. The award recognizes residential sales associates who closed 30+ transactions for the year. Sales associates who qualify for this award place in the top seven percent of the Prudential Real Estate Network nationwide and abroad.

Grover was recognized during the special awards ceremonies at Prudential Real Estate's Annual Business Convention in Las Vegas. More than 5,500 real estate professionals from throughout the United States and Canada attended the three-day event.

Grover entered the real estate field in 1997 and joined Prudential KARES in February 1998.


Bill Howard was awarded the international Chairman's Circle Gold award at the Prudential Convention that was held in Las Vegas at the Paris Casino & Resort in March. His performance placed him in the top one percent of all sales professionals within the Prudential Real Estate Network. Howard has also won the Prudential Legend Inductee award, an honor bestowed upon top performers who have received the Chairman's Circle designation five times during their affiliation with Prudential.

Howard is the Broker/Owner of Prudential KARES located in the Rochester Business Park. He has been in the real estate business for over 19 years.


Realtor Paul Crowell of Re/Max First was recently awarded the Zenith Award by the Women's Council of Realtors Rochester Chapter (WCR). This achievement recognizes successful closed sales transactions for the year 2002.

This award places him in the top one percent of the GRAR sales force. Paul Crowell joined Re/Max in 1990 and is a recipient of the 100 percent Club Award from Re/Max of New York and is a member of the Re/Max Hall of Fame. The "Breakfast of Champions" was held at the RIT Inn & Convention Center.

Paul Crowell is on the Board of Trustees at Roberts Wesleyan College and is active in the community. He represents Wohlers Development Corporation at Village Pines in Spencerport as well as local residential sales.


Elaine Crowell of Re/Max First started 2003 by qualifying for the Zenith Award, given by the Women's Council of Realtors Rochester Chapter (WCR) at the Breakfast of Champions held at the RIT Inn and Convention Center.

The Zenith Award indicates a high volume of production for the previous calendar year. Crowell, a repeat winner of the award, is a member of the Hall of Fame of Re/Max International and has consistently won top awards for her real estate service locally, statewide and nationally through Re/Max. She recently obtained the professional designation of CRS.


Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class John J. Hoeflich, son of Maria J. Hoeflich of Lancaster, New York, and Lester J. Hoeflich of Rochester, graduated from the Navy's Nuclear Power School at Naval Nuclear Power Training Command, Goose Creek, South Carolina. He joined the Navy in January 2002.
