Holocaust Photo Exhibit travels to C-C schools

A traveling exhibit from Monroe Community College (MCC) gave Churchville-Chili Junior and Senior High School students an opportunity to learn about the Holocaust and World War II. "The goal of the Holocaust/Genocide studies program at MCC is to educate the community about the tragedy of this time in our history. We wanted a chance to bring this display to our schools and teach our students," said Kathleen Schmitt, social studies teacher at C-C Senior High School.

Social studies and English teachers used this exhibit as part of classroom instruction. Students also used the display as research material for an essay contest. The topic for this contest is "What Happens When Human Rights are Violated." The essay contest is coordinated and judged by MCC professors. Awards in the amount of $100, $75 or $25 will be presented at the Yom HaShoah Commemoration on April 29. The contest is open to students all across the county at the college, high school and middle school levels.
