Finalists selected for sportswomen awards

Fifteen of the top female athletes in the five-county area will be honored on Monday, April 28 at the 25th Annual WHAM Sportswomen of the Year Awards Luncheon.

Five finalists in the local high school, local college, and local at-large divisions will attend the noon luncheon at the Sheraton Four Points Hotel in downtown Rochester, where the 2002-03 individual winners in each category will be announced.

The finalists in the high school category include Megan Dahlman of Nazareth Academy, a First Team Class B All-State basketball center, Third Team Class C All-State volleyball outside hitter, 86.0 overall academic average and a Spencerport resident; and Joanna Patalano of Churchville-Chili, First Team Class A All-State soccer defender, First Team All-Monroe County softball outfielder, basketball guard (injured as senior, 8th Team Class A All-State as junior), 96.7 overall academic average.

In the College division, the five finalists include Senior Kristen Clark of SUNY Brockport, WBCA Honorable Mention NCAA Division III All-American basketball forward, ECAC Upstate All-Star softball pitcher, 2.54 overall GPA and Hilton High School graduate.

The at-large (non-high school or college participants) finalists include Lyndsay Wall of Churchville, a defenseman on USA Ice Hockey Team that won Silver Medal at Four Nations Cup and was to compete in World Championships in China. She is a senior at Churchville-Chili High School.

The finalists were selected for their athletic excellence from April 2002 through March 2003. Overall career athletic achievements and academic performance/community involvement were also considered.
