Dog agility trials set

The 5th annual American Kennel Club sanctioned Agility Trial of the Dog Obedience Training Club of Rochester New York, Inc. will be held at the Town of Gates Memorial Park, 150 Spencerport Road, Saturday and Sunday, May 10-11. Hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Dog agility is a dog sport. A team of dog and handler navigate through an obstacle course consisting of jumps, tunnels, weave poles, A-frame, teeter, dog walk and table. Courses are designed by AKC licensed judges and kept secret until trial day. Teams are scored for accuracy and speed. Each dog competes at its own level of complexity, novice, open, excellent and against dogs within its own jump height, measured at the dog's shoulder, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24 inches.

Dogs who successfully complete each level three times under two different judges are awarded titles. Spectators are welcome, but pets must be left at home.
