Apprentice program seeking applicants

The Rochester Laborers' Joint Apprenticeship Committee, Local 435, will conduct recruitment for 12 skilled construction craft laborer apprentices through September 4, according to State Labor Commissioner Linda Angello.

Applications will be available at the local, 20 Fourth Street, Rochester, from 9 a.m. to noon, the first Thursday of each month. The union requires that applicants:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Have a high school or general equivalency diploma --
    proof required after acceptance for the program.
  • Have reliable transportation to and from work sites and training sites.
  • Show an aptitude for the construction trades.
  • Sign an affidavit stating they are physically able to do the work.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
