Brandon Steinorth, a senior at Ithaca College, was selected by the faculty of the History Department as the 2002/2003 Mayrock Award winner. The award is given each year to students who have made exceptional contributions to the History Department and reflects significant academic achievements as a student of history, as well as service outside of the classroom.

Steinorth was inducted into the Phi Alpha Theta Honor Society in a ceremony held April 24.

He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Rob Steinorth and a 1999 graduate of Hilton High School.


Timothy Osterhoudt, son of Thomas and Karen Osterhoudt and grandson of Hans and Marjorie Osterhoudt of Spencerport, is a member of the Winding Creek Elementary Odyssey of the Mind team based in Stafford, Virginia.
Odyssey of the Mind is a world wide creative problem solving competition. The team selected Fooled Ya! (Division I) as their problem to solve. The problem is to create and present a performance based around two characters who perform at least five illusions.

The team's solution discussed the social issue of homelessness. They placed first at the Rappahannock (VA) Regionals and also earned a Renatra Fusca Award for creativity. They placed second in their division at the State Competition held in Newport News, VA and are now headed to the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals to be held at Iowa State University in May. All are fourth or fifth graders. Timothy Osterhoudt is the only team member from New York state. "He is living in Virginia due to my husband's Marine Corps duty station," said Karen Osterhoudt.


Emily Ruth Caton of Spencerport was named to the dean's list for the fall 2002 semester at Johns Hopkins University. To be selected for this honor, a student must earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

Emily Ruth Caton is the daughter of Scott and Bonnie Caton and graduated from E. J. Wilson High School in Spencerport.

She is majoring in arts and sciences pre-major, and is expected to graduate in May 2005.


Sarla M. Mael of Kendall will be a candidate for a baccalaureate degree in elementary education at SUNY Oswego's 142nd Commencement ceremonies Saturday, May 17.


Roberts Wesleyan College Nursing Honor Society, seeking to become a part of a chapter-at-large of the Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society, announces induction of the following local members: Deborah Alger, Linda Bell, Rebekah Callihan, Marlene Downs, Dorothy Herbert, Elaina Howell, Carrie Johnston, Amy McKee, Lynne Morris, Laurel Munsell, Lynn Searl, Linda Sillars, Mary Claire Vesneske.


Jenna C. Bower, of West Albion Street, Holley, has been named to the dean's list for the second quarter at Rochester Institute of Technology. A first-year student in RIT's School of Print Media, she is studying graphic media.

Bower is the daughter of Mark and Karen Bower of Holley and a 2002 graduate of Holley High School.


Shannon Granville of Spencerport, was recently admitted into Phi Alpha Theta, the history honor society at the College of William and Mary. Becoming a member of Phi Alpha Theta requires a 3.1 GPA in history and overall. Students must take a range of history courses.


Richard Ugino of Hilton, a junior majoring in musical theater in the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University, is performing in the Syracuse University Drama Department's production of "Into the Woods," which runs through May 10 at the Arthur Storch Theater. Ugino appears as the baker in the production.

"Into the Woods" unites familiar fairy tales with an original story to explore these legends through a contemporary lens, revealing the frightening consequences of 'happily ever after.'


The following students attending Bishop Kearney High School have been named to the honor roll for the third marking period.

Kathleen Sereika, class of 2004, has achieved first honors. She is the daughter of Mary Mendola of Walker Lake Ontario Road, Hilton.

Stephanie Koszelak, class of 2004, has achieved first honors. She is the daughter of Timothy and Laurie Koszelak of Haskins, Lane, Hilton.

Kimberly Bunker, class of 2005, has achieved first honors. She is the daughter of Keith and Karen Bunker of West Beach Drive, Hilton.

Anthony Randich, class of 2005, has achieved first honors. He is the son of Keith and Kim Randich of Woodsmoke Lane, Hilton.


Ryan Toyama of Churchville has been named to the dean's list at Ithaca College for the fall semester 2002. A junior majoring in cinema, he is the son of Thomas and Cheryl Toyama.


Cathy Desiderio has been named to the Prudential Real Estate Affiliates, Inc. Leading Edge Society for 2002. The award recognizes sales professionals who close 30+ transactions for the year. Sales associates who qualify for this award place in the top seven percent of the Prudential Real Estate Network nationwide and abroad.

Desiderio was recognized during special awards ceremonies at Prudential Real Estate's Convention in Las Vegas in March. "Cathy Desiderio exemplifies the customer orientation that has helped us grow," said Bill Howard, Broker/Owner, Prudential K.A.R.E.S. "We go to great lengths to maintain our focus on our customer's needs and preferences and are prepared to meet them."

Cathy Desiderio has been serving the real estate community for 20 years. Prior to winning the award she has consistently been a multi-million dollar producer and also won the WCR Pinnacle Award in 1999.


Army Pvt. Daniel D. Brundage has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Georgia. He is the son of David Brundage of Sunset Drive, Holley.

Brundage is a 1999 graduate of Kendall Senior High School, Kendall.


Air Force Airman 1st Class Eric W. Dahlin has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Lynn Dahlin of Erie Street, Brockport, and John Dahlin of Jamestown, NY.

Dahlin is a 1999 graduate of Brockport High School.


Air Force Airman Eric S. Nesbitt has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

He is the son of John Nesbitt of Byron Road, Byron, and Gale Fritz of Sunnyside Lane, North Chili.

Nesbitt is a 1995 graduate of Batavia High School.
